Isolation is when someone feels alone or removed from others and it is typically considered to be a negative experience. Examples of isolation can be when:

  • You avoid contact with people for an extended period of time
  • You avoid people out of fear of being abandoned or out of a sense of shame or low self-worth
  • You do not feel better by spending time alone, or if you do, it is only because any anxiety about being around others is squashed.
